Paddling tour starts off on a high note for the Mocke family
The South African K1 River Marathon championships, which took place on the weekend of the 16th of June, saw the start of the 2017 Western Cape canoeing season. The two-day race kicked off on Friday (16 June) at Gouda where paddlers had a 30km race to Bridgetown, while day two (17 June) saw paddlers set off at Paarl Canoe Club to end off, 23km down the water, at Skooltjie.
Jasper Mocke, champion Surfski paddler, placed first overall with a total time of 3:46:26.35 for both races. Mocke says, “I have always loved a river race challenge, and am thrilled to have had a chance to dust off my K1 and participate – taking home the title is just the cherry on the cake.”
Jasper has spent the last few months focused on perfecting his performance on his Surfski, as the entire Mocke family including Dawid Mocke, four-time world Surfski champ, and his wife, professional Surfski racer, Nikki Mocke will be departing from the chilly Cape Town shores to compete at international Surfski races in Mauritius, Portugal, Canada, and America during the course of the next few weeks.
Stay tuned for more paddling endeavors by the Mocke family.
