Local entrepreneur, creative and all-round great guy, Innocent Kasanhai, has created various beautiful artworks which can be found in and around Cape Town. More recently, he designed and made the two wire Recycling Whales which have been placed on Fish Hoek Beach to encourage a plastic-free beach. Innocent was first thrust into the spotlight after he was commissioned to create the Recycling Whale on Noordhoek Beach named Kakapo. We chatted to innocent about his incredible craft below.

How long have you been making wire art and where did you learn to create these beautiful masterpieces?

I have been making wire art for 17 years. I learnt to work with wire and be crafty at Primary School in Zimbabwe as part of arts and crafts classes. Since then I have been passionate about being creative and using my hands to create art.

What is your favourite part about making your artworks?

My favourite part about creating art is the process. From the beginning with the designing, all the way to seeing the final product in the clients houses.

How long did the recent whales on Fish Hoek take to make?

It took me 2 weeks to complete the two whales and I was very happy with how they turned out.

Where can people find you to purchase your work?

People can find me on my street shop at Simon’s Town Waterfront (Next to Bertha’s restaurant).

Do you make custom artwork and how can people get hold of you?

Yes, I do custom creations. People can contact me on 0820972204 or email me at innocentkasanhai@gmail.com.
